Our Library Director let us add books to her account and tag them with our name. I added 5 books that I have read lately and enjoyed. I had never heard of LibraryThing before now.It is a great tool to create your own online catalog. It is amazing how it connects you with other people through your similar interests. I had looked at our Director's site on our website which listed her choices. There are so many layers to it. I looked at Ning, My Space and Facebook. It is not something that interests me to subscribe to but I do understand that this is how many people interact now. I know that the younger generation is definitely hooked on MySpace and Facebook. Ning seemed like it might appeal to older people(not teens). I am still wary about putting all of that information out there about yourself. It can be scary! I was amazed at all of the different social networks that are out there. You can find a network for anything that you want to communicate with other people about....as your ethnic background,career,hobbies,etc. I know that Teens use these social networks in our Library. I explored some of the feeds and chose a few. I chose Paper Cuts,Reading Room(Sunday Book Review),Library Stuff,Librarian.net,Good News network(we all need some!) and Newsweek.
